Prince George Begins New Chapter at Eton College as Future King Starts Prestigious Boarding School

George turned 13 in July and on Tuesday began the next phase of his education at one of the most famous boarding schools in the world, walking in his father Prince William's footsteps. Eton is an all-boys boarding school that houses students aged from 13 to 18, and has a reputation for being somewhat of an educational hub for British aristocracy — many U.K. prime ministers were students there, as were both Prince William and Prince Harry. The Waleses smiled as they passed a bronze statue of Henry VI, the school's founder, in the centre of a quadrangle, before shaking hands with Simon Henderson, the headmaster, and Sir Nicholas Coleridge, the provost of Eton, who serves as chair of its governing body. The family were then shown into the fourth-form passage in the original school building, home to what is understood to be the world's oldest classroom. Although the school is very close to George's home in Windsor, the young prince will be staying in one of the 25 boarding houses and will, like all the students, have his own room. Like other parents, William and Catherine were expected to help their eldest son settle into his new bedroom, which comes with a single bed, desk and shelves, and his accommodation will become more spacious as he progresses through the school, with pupils from other year groups returning on Wednesday for the start of the Michaelmas term. George appeared to be in good spirits despite the gloomy fall weather as he made his way to his new school accompanied by his parents, William and Catherine.
