South Korean YouTuber Park We, who boasted over one million subscribers, has seen his subscriber count plummet to approximately 930,000 following ongoing backlash over a divisive August incident involving CCTV footage of a wheelchair accident. The controversy has intensified as viewers have revisited past video content, revealing instances where he allegedly mocked a collaborator's visual impairment, leading to renewed criticism.
Park We, a disability activist and wheelchair user, has experienced a dramatic decline in his YouTube channel 'Weracle' following a series of controversies that first erupted in August 2026. On August 21, he uploaded CCTV footage of an accident that occurred while he was disembarking from a KTX train, during which his wheelchair caught on the foot of a public service worker who was assisting him. Although Park We stated his intention was to raise awareness about accessibility and safety for wheelchair users, the decision to publicly release the footage of the incident drew substantial criticism. Critics argued that the worker had been attempting to help him and had apologized immediately after the accident, and that releasing the footage was excessive and unfairly blamed someone acting in good faith.
Following the backlash, Park We made the video private and issued a formal apology, acknowledging that he had failed to consider the position of the worker who had done their best to assist him. However, the controversy has not subsided. As of October 10, 2026, his subscriber count had decreased to approximately 930,000, down significantly from the over one million subscribers the channel had maintained before the August incident.
The situation has been further exacerbated by renewed scrutiny of Park We's past content. Viewers have revisited earlier videos and identified instances where he appeared to mock the visual impairment of One Shot Hansol, a collaborator, in what viewers described as uncomfortable testing behavior. This discovery led to another wave of subscriber loss, bringing the count down from 950,000 to the 940,000 range before dropping further. Additionally, viewers have raised questions about content featuring his adopted family members, with allegations emerging online that his family may have discriminated against his wife, former K-pop artist Song Jieun, based on observations from family gathering videos.
Despite his apology regarding the KTX incident, Park We has suspended his YouTube activities, and the cascading controversies have significantly damaged his credibility and audience trust.
